ORANGE CITY, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a 73-year-old man critically injured a pedestrian while running into five vehicles and some shopping carts in a grocery store parking lot in Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Angel Rios Ruiz apparently meant to drive forward as he was leaving the parking lot in Orange City on Monday. Instead, he put the car in reverse, hitting a vehicle. Then, he moved forward and hit the other cars and carts and a 52-year-old woman.

Highway Patrol spokeswoman Kim Montes said the pedestrian was in critical condition when she was airlifted to a hospital.

None of the cars he hit were occupied.

Troopers are continuing to investigate.
