FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - A man who was reported missing from a park in Fort Collins last week drowned.

Fort Collins police say the body of 31-year-old Cordell Starkey of Fort Collins was found in the Poudre River near Legacy Park on Sunday, three days after some acquaintances reported him missing.

Detective Jeff Laguna said Tuesday an autopsy determined Starkey died of accidental drowning.

Police first began investigating after 10 p.m. on June 21 when someone called to report a man named Cordell that they’d met that day at the park was missing. The caller reported Cordell was intoxicated, may have gone into the river and they hadn’t seen him for several hours.

Officers searched the park and contacted local hospitals but were unable to find Starkey or any witnesses who could confirm his last known location.
