BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Police have arrested a man in a fatal shooting in Louisiana that occurred during what authorities described as a drug deal that turned into a robbery.

News outlets report that 19-year-old Tykelian Lafleur was arrested Monday on a first-degree murder charge in the June death of 32-year-old Kelvin Brown Jr.

Investigators believe Lafleur set up a meeting with Brown to conduct a drug deal. However, Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. says Lafleur tried to rob Brown when he arrived and then shot the man, prompting Brown to fire back in self-defense.

Coppola says Brown was pronounced dead on the scene. It’s unclear if Lafleur has a lawyer.
