LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles police officer who nearly died and lost his leg after an off-duty motorcycle crash three years ago is back on the force and walking with a prosthetic.

KABC-TV reported Tuesday that Officer Nick Wiltz took part in roll call this week after undergoing more than 20 surgeries and intensive rehab.

Wiltz was a rookie when he was hit by a truck while riding his bike in August 2015.

Even though doctors had no choice but to amputate his left leg, Wiltz says he never gave up hope that he would become a police officer again.
