FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Coconino County authorities say a man on probation for attempted sexual assault has been arrested after a 5 ½ hour armed standoff with police south of Flagstaff.

They say 26-year-old Spencer William Bird has been booked into jail on a felony warrant with possible additional charges pending.

County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a domestic violence incident Tuesday morning at a home in the Kachina Village subdivision.

A woman called authorities to say her boyfriend assaulted her after she found a bag of suspected methamphetamines in his possession and Bird also had a handgun.

The woman left the home and Flagstaff police negotiated for hours before a chemical irritant was fired into the bathroom and Bird surrendered.

It was unclear Wednesday if Bird has a lawyer yet.
