SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Salt Lake County district attorney says a South Jordan homeowner who shot and killed a woman who broke into his home will not face any criminal charges.

A homeowner, who has not been named, fatally shot 23-year-old Makayla Yeaman on June 8 after finding her inside his home.

Police say a knife was found near Yeaman’s body.

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said Wednesday that Yeaman had threatened the homeowner with the knife before the shooting.

Yeaman’s mother, LeeAnn, expressed anger and frustration on the decision to not charge the homeowner.

She says her daughter suffered from addiction.

She was trying to get her daughter into treatment before her death.
