LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities have charged a reputed gang member with gunning down two 15-year-old boys as they walked along a South Los Angeles street last month.

Police on Friday announced that 19-year-old Cristian Macias of Los Angeles was charged last week with murder and attempted murder. It’s unknown whether he has an attorney.

Police say La’marrion Upchurch and Monyae Jackson were walking at about 1:30 a.m. on Mother’s Day, May 13 when a car pulled up and someone asked them where they were from - a common gang challenge - before opening fire.

Two other 15-year-old boys who were walking with their friends were wounded.

Family members say the boys had come up from Long Beach to attend a party. Authorities say none had any gang affiliations.
