SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Tooele police are investigating after 32 calves were poisoned on the grounds of Tooele equestrian and rodeo arena.

The cattle’s owner Michael Dow tells KUTV-TV that he had leased the animals to Bit N’ Spur for the summer for penning activities.

He says he found about 150 pallets of rat poison in the calves’ drinking water when he went to check on them Wednesday morning.

Dow says about a dozen of the calves have become pretty sick.

Some have even started bleeding from their noses.

It could be several days or even weeks before symptoms develop in the other calves, so the extent of the damage is not yet known.

Altogether, the 32 are worth approximately $35,000.

Vet costs to treat the calves are piling on.
