COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A sheriff in South Carolina says a suspect in a shooting fired at deputies who were trying to arrest him.

The Richland County sheriff’s Department said in a news release that shots were fired at deputies around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. No one was hurt.

The sheriff’s department said the officers did not return fire and were able to arrest 23-year-old Tyler Westbury, who is charged with four counts of attempted murder. It was not known if he has an attorney yet.

A man who had been shot and wounded earlier was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia. His name has not been released and there was no word on his condition.
