HAPEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a Georgia State Patrol trooper shot a person while helping Atlanta police chase a vehicle just south of the city.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said on Twitter Monday that the trooper is “ok,” and that the wounded person was in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.
The GBI said the trooper was assisting Atlanta police with a chase of a vehicle that had a stolen license plate.
Authorities said the vehicle drove in the direction of the trooper, who fired multiple times and struck the person.
Hapeville is about 7 miles (11 kilometers) south of downtown Atlanta, near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
