EUNICE, La. (AP) - LSU Eunice has named Byron Starks as head coach of its men’s basketball program.

Starks, regarded as one of the top high school coaches in Louisiana, will lay the foundation for the start-up program that will begin play in the NJCAA for the upcoming 2018-2019 season.

KATC-TV reports the hire is pending approval of the LSU Board of Supervisors.

Starks says he’s honored to start a program from the ground up. He comes to LSUE after a successful six-years at Lafayette Christian Academy. The Knights were 170-28 under Starks, winning the 2018 and 2017 LHSAA Division IV State Championships. LCA also made five consecutive Top 28 appearances.

LSU Eunice Athletic Director Jeff Willis says Starks’ coaching experience, knowledge and core values mirror the type of program they want at LSUE.
