BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The city of Burlington will not be without a New Year’s celebration after the long-running First Night Burlington was forced to close this year due to financial troubles.

A new celebration called Highlight will ring in the new year.

NECN reports it’s a partnership between Burlington City Arts and the events promoters at Signal Kitchen - with the support of many sponsors.

The financial struggles of 35-year-running First Night Burlington were blamed on last year’s subzero cold and shrinking attendance.

Vermont native singer-songwriter Anais Mitchell is among the Highlight performers. Activities include a parade, fireworks, a bonfire and fire dancers.
