SEATTLE (AP) - The city of Seattle says it has settled a defamation lawsuit with one of five men who accused former mayor Ed Murray of sexual abuse when he was a teenager.

KUOW-FM reported Monday that the city will pay Murray’s former foster son Jeff Simpson $75,000.

Simpson, of Gladstone, Oregon, sued Murray and the city in May, claiming Murray improperly used his office to defame him and other accusers. It also contended the City Council and other officials negligently failed to investigate the allegations, and enabled Murray to stay in office.

Murray’s lawyer, Steve Fogg, said Murray did not pay anything toward the settlement and has not admitted any wrongdoing.

Delvonn Heckard sued last year and received a $150,000 settlement.

Murray resigned in September 2017 after his cousin publicly accused him of sexual abuse.

Murray has persistently denied all of his accusers’ allegations.
