The father of child-killing suspect Casey Anthony suffered “incapacitating” injuries in an automobile crash over the weekend in Florida.

According to a CNN report, George Anthony’s car overturned several times on Interstate 4 in Daytona Beach after he lost control of it driving west.

The 67-year-old father of Casey Anthony and a key witness in her 2011 trial in the death of 2-year-old daughter Caylee was taken to Halifax Medical Center with “incapacitating” injuries, CNN reported, citing a Florida traffic accident report.

The report said an unspecified medical issue may have caused Mr. Anthony to drive off the road, prompting a defensive reaction that led to the vehicle’s flipping.

According to CNN, the “incapacitating” designation means Mr. Anthony’s injuries were disabling in a manner that required transportation to a hospital, such as broken bones or severed limbs.

Mr. Anthony is a former police detective who was thrust into the spotlight upon the death of his granddaughter. Ms. Anthony said Caylee accidentally drowned in the family pool and that she and Mr. Anthony buried the remains to avoid calling the police. She also accused him of sexually abusing her when she was a girl.

Mr. Anthony, who contemplated suicide upon Caylee’s death in a note read during his daughter’s murder trial, denied either molesting her long ago or helping her bury the toddler after an accidental death.

Ms. Anthony, who did not testify at the trial, was acquitted of murder and all the other serious charges, being convicted only of misdemeanor counts of giving the police false information. She has been out of jail since July 2011.
