WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina woman has pleaded guilty after she was accused of beating a man to death with a baseball bat and dragging his half-naked body outside an apartment.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports 54-year-old Adele Karcher Turner pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder in the death of Nakia Laurence Paupaw on April 7, 2016.

Prosecutors said Turner tried to try to clean up the crime scene, then called 911 and told a dispatcher she had come home from out of town to find blood in her apartment and her friend missing.

Turner was sentenced to between 13 and 16 years and eight months in prison. She also received a suspended sentence on a drug charge, and will be placed on supervised probation for three years after her prison sentence ends.
