GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in North Carolina have jailed a man who they say tried to set a mobile home on fire with two people inside.

WITN in Greenville reports the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office says multiple charges have been filed against 30-year-old Robbie Chandler, including attempted first-degree arson, second-degree kidnapping and assault on a female.

Sheriff Neil Elks told a news conference Chandler is accused of assaulting his girlfriend with a screwdriver, then pouring gasoline on the mobile home Monday.

Elks said deputies tried to negotiate with Chandler. He came out of the home, and Elks said the man told deputies to shoot him. After ignoring orders to surrender, Chandler allowed deputies to arrest him.

Chandler is in jail without bond. Online records didn’t indicate whether he has an attorney.
