CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a gang member affiliated with MS-13 who pleaded guilty to racketeering charges has admitted to killing a fellow gang member on Long Island.

Jerlin Villalta entered the plea on Monday. The 21-year-old Brentwood man faces up to life in prison.

Prosecutors say Villalta and his coconspirators took turns slashing and fatally stabbing fellow MS-13 gang member Jose Pena because he was suspected of violating gang rules. His body was found in a wooded area of Brentwood in October 2016.

Another MS-13 gang member, 26-year-old Ronald Catalan, pleaded guilty on Monday, a day before his trial, to attempted murder of three rival gang members. He also faces life in prison.

MS-13 has been blamed for a spate of killings on Long Island since 2010.
