PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gasoline prices are down slightly in Rhode Island but remain well above the levels of a year ago.

AAA Northeast says its latest weekly survey finds self-serve regular selling for an average of $2.81 per gallon in the state, down 1 cent from the previous week and even with the current national average.

The average price one year ago at this time was $2.58 per gallon.

AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs Lloyd Albert says gas prices could start to increase ahead of the upcoming midterm elections and a potential announcement of U.S.
