NBC’s Chuck Todd fired back at Chris Cuomo on Friday after the CNN anchor made a dig at his ratings.

It all started Wednesday after Mr. Cuomo told The Hollywood Reporter that CNN is more politically relevant than NBC and that “Chuck Todd ain’t Jake Tapper.”

“Jake Tapper has a much bigger footprint in politics than Chuck Todd does,” the “Cuomo Prime Time” host said.

Mr. Todd, responding Friday on WABC’s “Bernie and Sid in the Morning,” said he was confused by Mr. Cuomo’s remarks.

“I have no idea where this guy’s coming from,” said Mr. Todd, who hosts NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sundays and MSNBC’s “MTP Daily” on weekdays

“I just read it as somebody who wanted to defend that fact that nobody in broadcast television wanted to hire him, I guess, or he couldn’t get the job that he wanted,” he said. “I don’t know what it was, but he was awfully defensive so he took shots at other people.”

Mr. Todd added that Mr. Cuomo was likely lashing out because his own ratings have been unimpressive.

Mr. Cuomo admitted in his interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he has been getting his “ass” kicked by primetime rivals Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow.
