Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Thursday deleted a snarky tweet criticizing Republicans after she misidentified one of her fellow Democratic colleagues, Rep. John Yarmuth, as being a GOP member.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, a New York democratic socialist who is known for her social media prowess, wrote the tweet in response to the Republican Party of Kentucky, which tweeted a picture of Mr. Yarmuth standing next to a cardboard cutout of Ms. Ocasio-Cortez.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, clearly not recognizing Mr. Yarmuth, clapped back: “Nobody: [silence] GOP: Let’s pose our older male members next to cardboard cutouts of young female legislators,” she wrote.

Twitter users were quick to point out that Mr. Yarmuth has been the Kentucky congressional delegation’s sole Democrat since 2013 and also chairs the House Budget Committee.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez deleted the tweet Thursday afternoon without further explanation.
