NEW YORK (AP) - Shuttle buses are replacing AirTrain service to New York City’s Kennedy Airport because of a smoke condition on the tracks.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says all trains were brought to stations and service was suspended around 5:45 p.m. Monday.

Bus service between airport terminals and mass transit depots will remain free for the duration of the AirTrain outage.

The Port Authority advised travelers to allow extra time to get to their destinations and said they should consider transportation alternatives.

Meanwhile, a snowstorm battering the northeastern U.S. is delaying some flights destined for Kennedy by about 90 minutes.

The airport has tallied about 40 flight cancellations and 375 delays as of 7 p.m. Monday, according to flight tracking site FlightAware.
