TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Officials say the police officer who shot two men during a pursuit in western Washington state was struck by their vehicle.

The News Tribune reports the city of Roy says in a statement that officer Chris Johnson is recovering from a head injury sustained from the Feb. 9 encounter.

The city says the Roy officer was hit and thrown on top of the speeding vehicle while trying to contact the driver.

Authorities say the officer was trying to stop the utility vehicle that was being driven recklessly, leading to a pursuit.

Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says the 23-year-old passenger and the 47-year-old driver have been released from the hospital.

He says the case will be forwarded to prosecutors.
