Sen. Cory Booker said Friday that Americans should embrace the Democrats’ “Green New Deal” because it is akin to fighting Nazis during World War II.

The 2020 presidential hopeful from New Jersey is on board with a climate change plan unveiled by New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Massachusetts Sen. Edward Markey.

Mr. Booker told a Mason City, Iowa, gathering that critics who demand a price tag aren’t being “bold” enough to “save Earth.”

“There’s a lot of people now that are blowing back on the Green New Deal. They’re like, ‘Oh, it’s impractical! Oh, it’s too expensive! Oh, it’s all of this!’ If we used to govern our dreams that way, we would have never gone to the moon,” Mr. Booker said Friday.

“We need to be bold again in America. We need to have dreams that other people say are impossible,” he continued. “When the planet has been in peril in the past, who came forward to save Earth from the scourge of Nazi and totalitarian regimes? We came forward.”

The Republican Party highlighted the commentary on its YouTube channel, which prompted “Allahpundit” of the conservative website Hotair to respond Friday: “Trying to build an actual stairway to the moon would have been a bold solution to the problem of how to land a man there. But such is the left’s excitement about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her bold ideas about ‘economic justice’ for people who are ‘unwilling to work’ that all of the chumps in the Democrats’ 2020 class have to feign enthusiasm for the Green New Deal — for now, during a primary, when it benefits them politically to do so.”

Sens. Kamala D. Harris of California, Kirsten Gilibrand of New York and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts are also on a list of nine Senate co-sponsors for the resolution.

The nonbinding congressional resolution garnered 64 co-sponsors in the House.
