BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - Authorities say a 79-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed by pickup as he was trying to cross a highway in southern Montana.

KULR-TV in Billings reports the man, whose name has not been released, was walking along Highway 47 in Hardin on Sunday night when he stepped into the northbound lane. Montana Highway Patrol investigators say an oncoming tractor-trailer swerved around the Hardin man, but a pickup behind the semi crashed into him.

The man was pronounced dead at the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital.

No other details were released.
