MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A Lansford man has been sentenced to nine months in jail for punching his girlfriend’s 11-month-old daughter in the head.

Thirty-year-old Derrick McLean pleaded guilty to felony child abuse in district court in Minot.

Judge Stacy Louser ordered McLean to have no contact with the child or her mother, to complete anger management classes, get a psychological exam and pay $1,350 in court costs.

The Minot Daily News reports McLean had been babysitting for the child while her mother was at work in January 2018. The woman took her daughter to the hospital after she returned and found bruising on the girl’s face. McLean later admitted he had punched the toddler because she wouldn’t stop crying.
