Voters hold President Trump responsible for the ongoing partial government shutdown, according to two new polls released this week.

As the partial shutdown stretches into its third week, Mr. Trump is taking the brunt of the blame. More than half of the voters in a Reuters survey and 47 percent in a new Morning Consult poll pointed to the president as the reason the federal government hasn’t opened completely.

Democrats trailed the president, but about 30 percent of voters in both polls said they were the ones responsible for blocking any deal and continuing the partial shutdown.

Only a small faction in either poll faulted the Republicans on Capitol Hill for the shutdown stalemate.

The president’s televised Oval Office address and the Democrats’ subsequent response Tuesday night showed that neither side is budging.
