CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota brushed off a sexual joke that her boss, CNN Jeff Zucker, made about her at the annual Mirror Awards in New York.

CNN president Mr. Zucker was honored with the Fred Dressler Leadership Award at the journalism awards ceremony hosted at Syracuse University on Thursday. During his acceptance speech, Mr. Zucker reportedly made a lewd crack about Ms. Camerota, who anchors “New Day.”

“I was gonna say that I love waking up WITH YOU every morning, but I want to say that I love waking up TO YOU every morning,” Mr. Zucker said, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Jeremy Barr.

The joke elicited “some groans in the room,” Mr. Barr reported.

Ms. Camerota later defended her boss against criticism for the joke, saying she didn’t consider it harassment.

“It’s the oldest joke in the book made to morning show anchors, both men and women,” she told Mediaite in a statement. “I hear it a couple of times a week from people in the grocery store. That isn’t harassment, in my opinion, and I didn’t find it tone deaf, either.”
