Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales admitted Monday that he was just trying to “rile up the MAGA bots” when he tweeted that he was leaving the U.K. because of President Trump’s visit.

Mr. Wales, an Alabama native who now lives in London, sparked a Twitter firestorm early Monday after he suggested that he was purposely leaving town during the Republican president’s official state visit.

The tweet was heavily “ratioed,” meaning it received far more responses than likes and retweets. Mr. Wales later admitted that his trip to Florida was a long-planned family trip and had nothing to do with Mr. Trump, adding that he was just “trolling” the president’s supporters, who he called “cultists.”

Mr. Trump landed in England on Monday morning for his first official state visit, making his first stop at Buckingham Palace to dine with Queen Elizabeth II and have tea with Prince Charles.
