CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - The current leader of the Rhode Island Democratic Party has been easily re-elected to another term as party leader.

State Rep. Joseph McNamara was challenged by state Rep. Moira Walsh at the Democratic State Committee in Cranston on Sunday night. The Providence Journal reports that McNamara easily outpolled Walsh by 144-28 in a roll call vote.

Walsh says she ran for the party chair because she wanted a party she could be proud of, referring to McNamara endorsing a President Donald Trump-supporting former Republican in an unsuccessful primary for her seat.

The committee of about 300 Democratic office holders and town committee members also voted to accept the party platform.
