CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - A St. Louis County businessman who killed a man inside a convenience store restroom has been sentenced to three years of probation.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 63-year-old Silver Franklin pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree involuntary manslaughter in the death of Donte Woodson. Prosecutors dropped a first-degree murder charge.

Franklin owns an ATM service company and was robbed of $20,000 seven weeks before the August 2015 shooting. Court records say he suspected Woodson was the robber.

Franklin followed Woodson into a QuikTrip restroom and shot him in the left side. Woodson collapsed dead on the parking lot. Franklin turned himself in the next day.

Woodson’s father, Robert Beene, says the sentence proves that “if you’ve got money, you can take the law into your own hands.”
