Actor Jim Carrey fired back at Sen. Ted Cruz with a painting on Tuesday after the Republican senator scolded him for a cartoon picturing Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey being aborted.

Mr. Carrey posted a painting of Mr. Cruz’s face with a screed written over it denouncing the senator for “lecturing” him about morality while pushing pro-Second Amendment policies.

The “Dumb and Dumber” star wrote: “Some greasy Joe McCarthy wanna-be who is shameless and will remain nameless was lecturing me in the press about morality and civility after spending years in the Senate defending the rights of mass murderers to own AR-15s with which they massacre innocent children in their classrooms.”

“I thought I must be dreaming, but I haven’t woken up yet. I guess this hypocrisy is the new American dream,” he added. “Gee … I hope the loss of women’s rights, our enslavement by the drug companies and the unnecessary war in Iran won’t disturb anyone’s slumber!”

The feud started Monday after Mr. Cruz wrote a tweet blasting Mr. Carrey as “vicious” and “angry” for posting a cartoon that envisioned Ms. Ivey, a Republican, as a fetus giving a thumbs-up as she’s being aborted.

Ms. Ivey signed the most restrictive anti-abortion bill in the country last week, outlawing virtually all abortions in the state, including in cases of rape and incest.

“I think If you’re going to terminate a pregnancy, it should be done sometime before the fetus becomes Governor of Alabama,” Mr. Carrey captioned his drawing.

“This is not OK,” Mr. Cruz responded. “Today’s Left: vicious, angry & consumed by hate. Instead of insults & dehumanizing rage, we should return to civility.

“I disagree w/ Carrey’s politics, but believe we should respect his humanity nonetheless. I wish he could reciprocate. #LoveIsStrongerThanHate,” the senator added.
