Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban said he likes Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her ability to get people’s attention but dismissed some of her statements, particularly about American capitalism, as “headline porn.”

“I love AOC,” the Dallas Mavericks owner told Yahoo Finance in a forthcoming interview. “She’s learned the lesson of social media where you get long and you get loud and you get people’s attention, and then you deal with substance after that.”

In January, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez argued that a society that “allows billionaires to exist” while some Americans live in abject poverty is “immoral.”

Mr. Cuban dismissed that statement as “headline porn,” Yahoo reported.

The “Shark Tank” host, who is mulling a 2020 presidential bid, also criticized the New York congresswoman’s proposed 70% marginal tax rate on income over $10 million, saying he’s not “a fan of trickle down taxation.”

“The concept that just tax those who have a whole lot more, then all of a sudden, it’ll find its way to those who need it,” Mr. Cuban said. “Doesn’t work, hasn’t worked, won’t work.”

“That doesn’t mean that there’s not an income inequality problem,” he added. “There is — and it’s something we have to deal with.”

Mr. Cuban’s comments can be viewed in full on Yahoo Finance’s “Influencers with Andy Serwer,” which airs Thursday.
