BERLIN, N.H. (AP) - The glow of jack-o’-lanterns and flames that appear to be floating on water will light up New Hampshire’s northernmost city this weekend.

Berlin is hosting its annual RiverFire festival on Saturday. In addition to music, food, a costume parade and other activities, more than 400 carved pumpkins will be lit up on the Androscoggin River Bridge. And at dusk, the river itself will be lit up with fires on the historic boom piers that dot the river.

The piers were used during the city’s logging industry heyday, when they separated and guided trees sent down the river to paper mills.
