ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Stephen Dinan carefully navigates through the legalities of whether the full House of Representatives must vote to authorize an impeachment inquiry (“Pelosi faces serious legal challenges to ‘casual’ impeachment inquiry,” Web, Oct. 3). What is most salient here, however, is the reason for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to hold such a vote It is a blatant effort to shield vulnerable Democrats from having to go on the record with their positions.

If Mrs. Pelosi remains intransigent, House Republicans should call her bluff by introducing a resolution to open an impeachment inquiry themselves. Then Mrs. Pelosi’s refusal to schedule a vote would be seen for the political gamesmanship that it is.
