DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - After nearly 70 years, the Morgan County Fair won’t occur this year in Alabama.

WAFF-TV reports the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Decatur has been on the market for more than 20 years. Fair director Jon Wiley says the land was bought unexpectedly. And while organizers tried to find a new location for this year’s fair, there simply wasn’t enough time.

Wiley and the rest of the fair board are already preparing for 2020. They’re currently seeking a location for the event that’s been a family affair for more than half a century.

Wiley says the fair is regarded locally as the “Six Flags or Disney for a lot of families.” He says that’s why he and the board do all that they can to keep the tradition going.
