CINCINNATI (AP) - A prosecutor says no charges will be filed against a Cincinnati police officer who shot and wounded an armed man.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters (DEE-turz) said in a release Tuesday that an undercover officer working in the Avondale neighborhood around noon Sept. 11 radioed for assistance after seeing a man pull a gun from his pocket and move it to his waistband.

The release says responding police Officer Marc Schildmeyer arrived and ordered the man to show his hands. The release says the man pulled a gun from his waistband and Schildmeyer fired once, striking the man in the chest.

Deters says the man remained hospitalized in stable condition, and is expected to face charges.

Police recovered a loaded, semi-automatic handgun at the scene.
