CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Brig. Gen. Russell Crane was appointed a deputy secretary of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Secretary Bill J. Crouch announced.

Crane’s appointment is effective Monday.

He most recently served as the assistant adjutant general of the West Virginia National Guard and the deputy commanding general of the Training Support Division (East) of the First U.S. Army.

Maj. Gen. James Hoyer, adjutant general, assigned Crane to assist Crouch with the COVID-19 pandemic in March.

“With General Crane’s deployment to Africa, Afghanistan, and Europe, as well as his service to the United States and his home state of West Virginia, he brings a plethora of experience, enthusiasm and strong leadership and management expertise to the table, especially during this worldwide pandemic of COVID-19,” Crouch said in a news release.
