PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The new director of a group that advocates for Maine bicyclists and bike safety is a veteran of the nonprofit sector who will take over the organization this month.

The Bicycle Coalition of Maine said on Jan. 30 that it has hired Jean Sideris to serve as its new executive director. Sideris will begin running the organization Feb. 25.

Sideris has worked in the nonprofit world for nearly two decades, and worked as deputy director of campaigns in the climate and energy program for the Union of Concerned Scientists. She worked with that organization for the last 15 years.

The Bicycle Coalition of Maine works to make the state safer for cyclists and pedestrians. Sideris called the group “an effective and critical advocate for pedestrians and people on bikes, seeking practical solutions to making our streets and pathways safer for all users.”
