Kim Kardashian West praised President Trump’s Super Bowl ad featuring Alice Marie Johnson in a new interview, saying it’s “amazing” to see criminal justice reform becoming a national priority.

Mrs. Kardashian West appeared on ABC’s “Strahan, Sara & Keke” on Monday when she was asked by co-host Sara Haines to weigh in on the ad about Ms. Johnson, who was released from prison after serving 21 years of a life sentence for first-time, nonviolent drug convictions.

Mrs. Kardashian West played a key role in lobbying the president to commute Ms. Johnson’s sentence, yet the reality star’s name wasn’t mentioned in the 30-second spot that aired at Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2.

Ms. Haines asked Mrs. Kardashian West if was “hurtful at all” to not be mentioned in the ad.

“No, no. Not at all,” Mrs. Kardashian West replied. “I’m just so happy for Alice, that she is getting that recognition, and, honestly, I’m happy that the president is really backing the issue because so much has to be changed.”

“And to put out a commercial like that, supporting that issue, is amazing,” she added.

“I agree,” Ms. Haines said. “You have to play in the game you’re in.”

The Republican National Committee promoted a clip of Mrs. Kardashian West’s comments Monday.

Ms. Johnson, who was one of Mr. Trump’s guests during his 2019 State of the Union address, tweeted after the ad first aired that she would spend her newfound freedom fighting for people who face similar injustices.

“Two Super Bowls ago I was sitting in a prison cell,” the 63-year-old wrote. “Today I am a free woman and my story was featured in a Super Bowl Ad. I will spend the rest of my life fighting for the wrongly and unjustly convicted! God Bless America!”

“So proud of you!!!!” Mrs. Kardashian West responded at the time.
