SALTON CITY, Calif. (AP) - U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 26 immigrants discovered inside a tractor trailer at a Southern California checkpoint, authorities said.

The semi trailer was searched Wednesday night near Salton City, officials said.

“The undocumented immigrants were locked and trapped inside this tractor-trailer in below 45 degree weather with no safety restraints,” Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez said in a news release.

The group of immigrants included two juveniles, the newspaper said.

The driver was later identified as a Mexican national who was in the United States illegally, authorities said
