Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson is asking fans to boycott his former band over its scheduled performance this week at a hunting event featuring Donald Trump Jr.

Mr. Wilson, who officially left The Beach Boys in 2012, is promoting a petition calling for a boycott against his former band for headlining this Wednesday at The Safari Club International convention, a trophy hunting event in Reno, Nevada, where the president’s eldest son will be the keynote speaker.

“This organization supports trophy hunting, which Both Al and I are emphatically opposed to,” Mr. Wilson tweeted, referring to bandmate Al Jardine, CBS News reported. “There’s nothing we can do personally to stop the show, so please join us in signing the petition.”

“Dear Beach Boys Manager Elliott Lott,” the petition states. “We the undersigned pledge to stop buying or downloading all Beach Boys music, going to Beach Boys concerts, and purchasing any Beach Boys merchandise until the Beach Boys withdraw from the SCI Convention and publicly state their opposition to this sick ‘sport’ of killing animals for ‘fun.’

“We will call on the Beach Boys’ record label, agent and publicists to disown the Beach Boys, and on members of the public to protest at forthcoming Beach Boys concerts, unless they do so,” it reads.

Nearly 97,000 people have signed the petition so far.
