CNN host Chris Cuomo slammed Sen. Martha McSally for acting like a “punk” and doing a “disservice” to the late Sen. John McCain’s legacy after she called a CNN reporter a “liberal hack.”

Ms. McSally, an Arizona Republican who was appointed to fill the Senate vacancy left by McCain, has refused to apologize for calling CNN reporter Manu Raju a “liberal hack” in a Capitol Hill hallway on Thursday despite multiple media personalities calling her behavior unacceptable.

Mr. Cuomo on Thursday night called Ms. McSally’s behavior “upsetting,” given the former Air Force combat pilot’s “amazing record of service to this country.”

“She really acted like a punk today,” Mr. Cuomo told fellow anchor Don Lemon. “She did a disservice to herself and the seat that she holds, which is John McCain’s.”

Mr. Lemon agreed that “you don’t have to be rude. You don’t have to degrade someone” just because you don’t want to answer a question.

Mr. Cuomo then mentioned that Ms. McSally has a “tough race” ahead of her against Democrat Mark Kelly, a former NASA astronaut and the husband of former Rep. Gabby Giffords.

“There’s no question she has a tough race on her hands,” he said. “The question is, is she ruining it all right now? Because if you want to be John McCain, you can’t be doing what she did today.”

Mr. Lemon added that he’s bothered by the “hypocrisy” shown by Republicans who excuse Ms. McSally’s behavior.

“The hypocrisy bothers me and it bothers me that it’s acceptable and it’s even lauded and applauded among a certain group in our country right now,” he said.
