President Trump on Tuesday congratulated Conor McGregor for his big win Saturday night after the Ultimate Fighting Championship star praised him as an “incredible,” “phenomenal” president.

Fresh off his win against MMA fighter Donald Cerrone, Mr. McGregor tweeted to his nearly 8 million followers, “Phenomenal President” and the image of a goat, which means “G.O.A.T.” or “Greatest of All Time.”

“Most certainly one of them anyway, as he sits atop the shoulders of many amazing giants that came before him,” Mr. McGregor wrote Monday night. “No easy feet [sic]. Early stages of term also. Incredible. Congrats and Happy Martin Luther King Jr. day America.”

His tweet was in response to Mr. Trump’s touting his record on black unemployment while marking Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“It was exactly three years ago today, January 20, 2017, that I was sworn into office,” the president wrote. “So appropriate that today is also MLK jr DAY. African-American Unemployment is the LOWEST in the history of our Country, by far. Also, best Poverty, Youth, and Employment numbers, ever. Great!”

Mr. McGregor’s praise was retweeted by the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., and later caught the attention of the president himself.

“Congratulations on your big @UFC WIN!” Mr. Trump responded.

Mr. McGregor’s position on Mr. Trump appears to have changed since 2015, when he said he didn’t “give a [expletive]” about the then-presidential candidate, The Hill reported at the time.
