A joke by comedian George Lopez about assassinating President Trump has caught the attention of the Secret Service, the agency said Monday.

George Lopez doubled down Sunday on the reported bounty Iran put on Mr. Trump for the killing of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

“We’ll do it for half,” Mr. Lopez wrote on Instagram in response to a user’s post that Iran had allegedly offered $80 million to anyone who assassinated Mr. Trump.

The comment prompted outrage and was eventually deleted.

“The Secret Service is aware of the tweet made by Mr. Lopez,” a USSS representative said in a statement, the Washington Examiner reported. “The Secret Service takes all threats against the president and or any of our protectees seriously, and as a matter of practice, we do not comment on matters involving protective intelligence.”

Representatives for Mr. Lopez told Fox News that the comedian’s remark was “a joke.” It was not clear whether he had yet been contacted by the Secret Service.
