PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - Colorado police arrested a man for allegedly attempting to incite a riot at a demonstration calling for the removal of a statue of Christopher Columbus.

The event Sunday marked the third consecutive weekend demonstrators gathered to call for the removal of the Columbus monument in Pueblo, The Pueblo Chieftain reported.

No information was immediately available about the man who was arrested or at least two other people who were removed from the scene by police.

A competing protest took place nearby, which was attended by people who favor keeping the monument in the city 112 miles (180 kilometers) south of Denver.

A standoff occurred between the two groups while police remained in between in attempts to keep the demonstrator groups separate.

A group called For The People - Pueblo has pledged to protest every weekend until the statue is removed.
