President Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic garnered some unlikely praise from Rep. Ilhan Omar, who called his leadership during the crisis “incredible.”

“Politics aside, this is incredible and the right response in this critical time,” Mrs. Omar, a Minnesota democratic socialist and staunch critic of Mr. Trump, tweeted Wednesday night.

The congresswoman was responding to a tweet by The Intercept’s Lee Fang, who outlined some of Mr. Trump actions to keep the economy afloat during the pandemic, including suspending mortgage foreclosures, demanding cash payments to Americans, and “invoking the Defense Production Act to force private firms to produce needed supplies.”

Mrs. Omar responded with a quote by fellow “Squad” member Rep. Ayanna Pressley, who “always says, unprecedented times require unprecedented leadership and we are seeing that in our country right now,” Mrs. Omar said.

“I have faith that we will survive this as a nation and build together,” Mrs. Omar tweeted.

“Finally, we should never let politics get in the way of good policy,” she added. “This is a great start and hope others will be part of a united front to push for good policies that will help us work through the economic anxiety the country is feeling right now.”
