CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - An hourslong standoff with police in South Carolina ended when a SWAT team found the suspect hiding in an attic, authorities said.

Desmond Maurice Deas, who had active arrest warrants with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, ran into a North Charleston home after officers tried to detain him Wednesday, news outlets reported.

Police officers attempted to call him out of the house for several hours before a SWAT team went in and found him in the attic, the North Charleston Police Department said.

News outlets report Deas, 28, has been in jail nearly 26 times for traffic and drug violations.
