MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A non-fatal officer involved shooting in December was justified, the Vermont Attorney General’s office said Tuesday.

Attorney General T.J. Donovan said that after reviewing the evidence his office declined to prosecute Vermont State Police troopers Robert Helm and Matthew Hood for shooting Greg West outside West’s Bristol home.

Police were called to West’s home after a relative called to report he was intoxicated, armed with a shotgun and threatening. West refused repeated verbal commands to drop his weapon. He was hit with multiple rounds from the troopers’ patrol rifles.

West, who was hospitalized after the shooting, is currently facing a number of charges stemming from the incident.
