NEW YORK (AP) - A man waiting for a New York City subway train was slashed in the face in an apparent random attack Saturday - the third violent assault within the past several days against a passenger of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, police said.

The victim, 26, was on the platform of a Brooklyn station near Cadman Plaza Park when a man suddenly slashed him in the face with a box cutter, police said. The condition of the victim, who was taken to a hospital, was not released.

Authorities said the two men got off a train shortly after 1 p.m. and the victim was attacked while waiting for another train.

Police were trying to find the attacker. No arrests were announced.

On Wednesday, a UPS worker was pushed onto the tracks at a Manhattan station. On Thursday, a woman was pushed onto the tracks at another Manhattan station and was between the rails when a train came through. Both victims suffered only minor injuries and arrests were made in both cases.
