SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - An 18-year-old has been arrested in suburban Salt Lake City for allegedly shooting a fellow teen to death while pretending to arrest him.

Kaden Christensen is accused of shooting the 15-year-old boy in the back in Kearns early Saturday morning while “mimicking being a police officer,” according to a court document filed by police. The document also indicates Christensen acknowledged smoking 1-2 grams of marijuana before the shooting and that he thought the gun was unloaded because he removed the magazine before accidentally shooting the victim, KUTV reported.

Detective Kevin Mallory said five or six people were in the house at the time of the shooting. Christensen was arrested and jailed on suspicion of manslaughter, a second-degree felony.

It’s unclear if he has an attorney who can speak on his behalf. The victim’s name has not been released.
